Autumn music
Today I have done a couple of important things: I changed tires on my car, done some shopping and brought the new baby and her Mom back home
And I have to admit, this kind of moment is life-changing, all sorts of stuff goes on in my head. I’m thinking about how to change our menu into something more healthy, I’m thinking about buying a new car, getting a bigger apartment, and the thing I want to talk about here: teaching the kids about music!
Music should be important to a child. It will lighten the mood, learn rhythm and words, sing and dance and I believe it does make a foundation to what they will listen to as adults. And taste in music is for many of us essential to important choices in life, it influences your image, your style, who your friends are, your spouse. Think about it…
Some of the greater bands have influenced me a lot and sort of made me into what and how I am today. I still listen to these all-time favorites, and with the kids in the house my plan is to increase this. Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, Dream Theatre are some of the major ones.
A week ago I made a post on the Borknagar Facebook, and I got very good response.
And with the baby in the house I guess you can tell where I’m going with this: What bands/ albums/ songs/ videos would you play to your kids to teach them properly about music? What would be your favorite choice in first concert for the kid when he or she gets old enough?
Autumn is perfect for some moody, powerful and diverse progressive music. Winter calls for ice-cold metal!
Anyway, as you probably figured out by now, Century Media have removed all their bands from Spotify in the ongoing feud. But I don’t use Spotify, so this doesn’t affect me. I use WIMP which is like a Norwegian spawn of Spotify. And while I’m not sure if you can even access this service from outside of Norway, it’s worth mentioning anyway. You see, nothing is removed from WIMP. And as WIMP has special focus on the Norwegian music, you can find a lot of the metal bands here also. Like Borknagar. Only missing the first album here.
And the ICS Vortex album is here also:
And Sarke
Just a tip from me.
These days I’ve got Devin Townsend and Opeth as current favorites there.

Drumcam, ICS Vortex “Flaskeskipper”

As I wrote in my blog May 18. we recorded the drums for the ICS Vortex “Storm Seeker” in three sessions. The very last song we recorded was “Flaskeskipper” on December 3. 2009. Simen finished the song just in time for the last drum session and I had the mesmerizing melody stuck in my head for three days straight. The song reminds me a lot about Portishead and I really didn’t want to mess the song up with any fancy play. OK, the drums are already pretty straight forward on the whole album, but on this last song I wanted it to be totally basic and let the vocals carry the song. Read the rest of this entry »

We had a small release party last night, celebrating with cigars and drinks he he. Was a fun night although Asgeir was home with the flue, and both Steinar and Terje had gigs out of town. We just have to do it again later.
