Jens plays Colossus

I have been thinking about how to make better guitar- instruction videos where you can also hear what I actually play on the songs. And I tested the easy version today, the easy version being both iTunes and Guitar Rig on the stereo in the living-room. This doesn’t really make very good quality on the sound, but better to try out then not to. Next version I want to test doing this through Cubase, but I don’t really need any editing when I anyway need to play the guitar on one take for the video. I’ll do some more research later on, let’s check out this first.

On popular demand I picked Colossus, and I have a feeling I might regret this he he. Let me tell you a small secret: I didn’t play any guitars on Colossus on the Quintessence album. There’s several Read the rest of this entry »

The Ketchup Incident

The Americans have some weird laws and rules. This week Dave had to return to USA for only one reason, he’s been abroad for 3 months. And if he doesn’t return, he’ll be “grounded” in the States.

At the same time, we Europeans also have some pretty messed up rules. We’re all so worried about the stream of immigrants from the poor parts of the world, that we have made laws that also prevent guys like Dave to live in Norway and play with his band without some rather heavy paperwork and long application processes. Fortress Europe, learn the expression.

Other then that, I’ve told two chapters of the story of Read the rest of this entry »

The lyrics for Borknagar’s “Colossus”

The song “Colossus” on the Borknagar album “Quintessence” has turned out to be a favourite amongst the fans. ICS Vortex wrote the music and I wrote the lyrics. I remember it took me only 10 minutes to make the drums (some songs just “click” right away) and less than an hour to record them. 40 minutes of the recording was actually a huge discussion in the studio about the drum roll 1:30 into the song… I wanted to do something else (which I can’t remember what was now) but ended up doing what the other guys in the band wanted. Another fun (?) fact is Read the rest of this entry »

Borknagar concerts; Wacken 2009 video

In 2009 Borknagar was invited to play the Wacken festival north of Hamburg. This was the third time we played Wacken: First time was just before we entered studio to record “The Archaic Course” in 1998. The second time was in 2002 and now it was time for the third edition.

What is Wacken? Well, it’s one of the biggest European metal festivals, and it’s been for some time. If I’m not mistaken, 2009 was the 25th anniversary? It’s a 4-5 day event each August where 75 000 metal- heads gather to enjoy their favorite bands and drink beer, loads and loads of beer ;) All the biggest metal bands have played there; Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead. And there’s always good representation from Norway and also quite a few Norwegians in the audience. Read the rest of this entry »

Borknagar fan video

What a day, what a week! And it’s still only Thursday.

After only two days in Oslo we already found an apartment for Dave, and he’s moving in tomorrow.
